The Complex Relationship Between Axia and the Exo

Today, we will delve into the intricate relationship between the Axia and the Exo, a dynamic that is explored both directly and indirectly throughout the novels of The Purity and later in Chaos and Darkness, inheriting storylines from previous sagas within the Continuus Nexus.

The Battle of Axia in the Terra system occurred during a period of intense war between four factions vying for control over the solar system. At this distant point in history, humanity had not yet developed sublight or warp technologies, preventing them from venturing beyond their own solar domain. After centuries of colonization of the system’s planets, moons, and asteroids, a critical resource shortage led to all-out war among the dominant human factions.

A young Jeor Arryn, suffering from amnesia following his Quantum Leap, arrives on the distant world of Sedna in the Oort Cloud, where he is rescued by Captain Arryn. She adopts him and mentors him, and over time, he rises through the ranks to become an officer in her faction. However, their ideological differences eventually separate them, as Jeor rejects his adoptive mother’s militaristic vision. It was Captain Arryn who handed over the Khotor Matrix to the faction’s High Command, leading to the development of the proto-Axia, which would later rebel against its creators. This was the same matrix that Elsa Schneider had once gifted to Sael’s son as a pendant and keepsake.

None of this technology would have reached Terra without the Quantum Leap that ended the Arcane Dominion in Exodus, and, of course, without the power of the Exoship.

It’s important to remember that for thousands of years, the Exo had prevented other species from entering the human sphere—until they allowed the Arcanes to infiltrate. This decision shocked both the Exo leadership and the enigmatic entity known as the Voice of Conscience. This turn of events forced humanity to take drastic action, destroying the stellar anomaly network they depended on in Exodus to eliminate their enemies. This act compelled Jeor to undertake his Quantum Leap, stripping him of his memory and sending him back to the past of the Terra system, thus initiating his infinite paradox.

These events, in many ways, were orchestrated and influenced by the Exo, with the goal of ensuring that a portion of humanity would reach Exodus, populate it, and thrive.

Through The Purity, we also learn that Ká, the Prophet of the Kurgan, is an evolved remnant of one of the two Axia instances that survived the Battle of Terra. One of these instances passed through the Exodus stellar anomaly and would later return thousands of years later as a formidable threat. The other, which remained within the Milky Way, eventually ended up on the world of the Kurgan, undergoing a continuous evolutionary process after encountering Exo technology. This interaction led to its communion with the Exo and alignment with their long-term plans. As a result, Ká became yet another tool through which the Exo influenced human evolution, subtly guiding the new civilizations that emerged from the survivors of Terra as they expanded across the galaxy.

The Exo operate on both space-time lines with varying degrees of subtle influence, carrying out a generational plan aimed at steering humanity toward the Infernal Conjunction—the ultimate act in this multiversal war to determine humanity’s evolutionary destiny in their struggle against the Khabal.

The full ramifications of the Axia-Exo connection continue to unfold across the events of Chaos and Darkness, revealing the intricate and calculated role the Exo play in shaping the fate of humanity. Their interventions, both overt and covert, are driving forces behind the greatest conflicts and revelations within the Continuus Nexus.
